Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky and residing in Nags Head, North Carolina and Nelson County, Virginia most of her adult life, Bettye began painting to fulfill a lifelong love of art. Her appreciation of watercolors fostered a desire to learn and experience the challenge of the medium.

Subjects of interest and beauty in her life make their way from pallet to paper. Painting in watercolors, for Bettye, is a passion and a way of thinking. Through a love of the Outer Banks, and from travel, there is a never-ending variety of subjects to paint.

Exploring new styles and techniques led Bettye to also paint with acrylics. This water base medium allows the artist to build the image as the work progresses. She paints with quality transparent watercolors and acrylics from her own photographic and sketch references.

Bettye has completed a number of commissioned paintings, and sells her work in several galleries and art shows each year. Paintings can be viewed at Seaside Art Gallery, Nags Head, NC, the Dare County Arts Council Gallery, Manteo, NC, the Alleghany Highlands Art Center, Clifton Forge, VA, the Lynchburg Art Festival and the Lynchburg Art Club, Lynchburg, VA.

She is a member of the Dare County Arts Council, NC and the Lynchburg Art Club, Lynchburg, VA.
